Centro Chega! also offered humanitarian support to the most vulnerable survivors in Covalima Municipality. The survivors expressed their gratitude for the health treatment, as their conditions had made it challenging to carry out daily activities. The humanitarian support also provided significant relief from their suffering.

Gustavo Afonso Domirai, a survivor, was particularly pleased to receive the humanitarian support, especially the survival needs from Centro Chega!. He also thanked the Health of Covalima Municipality for collaborating with Chega! to conduct health treatments that helped identify diseases. The survivors received medications for their speedy recovery.

“I am truly grateful to receive survival needs from Centro Chega!. Every day, I remain at home as I cannot farm due to waist pain, while my wife can work. On April 11, 1999, in Olbes Hun, I was captured by the Militias, who struck me with a weapon until I fell to the ground. They then brought and threw me into the river, but I revived thereafter in the afternoon,” said Gustavo.

Regina Afonso, a survivor, expressed her gratitude for the support she received from Centro Chega! in meeting her daily needs, as well as the care provided by the Health of Covalima Municipality for her treatment.

“I am happy to receive support for my basic needs from the government for the first time through Centro Chega!. Regarding the health consultation is good as the doctor can assess my conditions and provide me with the necessary medications,” she stated.

Another survivor, Aleixo Gusmão, recounted his experience from 1999 when militias captured him and subjected him to punishment at KODIM. During that time, he endured physical abuse, including being punched, kicked, and submerged in water. He expressed relief in receiving medications from the Health of Covalima Municipality.
