Dili, July 11, 2025 – A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen cooperation in Education has been officially signed by Hugo Maria Fernandes, Executive Director of Centro Chega! alongside Rector of Universidade Oriental Timor Lorosa’e (UNITAL), Dr. Claudino Ninas Nabais, Ph.D. This MoU was held at the Antigo Comarca Balide during the Celebration of the 8th Anniversary of Centro Chega! and Popular Resistance Culture Festival “Collective Memory Path to Reconciliation.”
The primary objectives are to establish collaboration on integrating the Chega! Module into the UNITAL’s Peace Education Curriculum, to foster the quality of education on Peace Education, particularly teaching methodology, to involve Lecturers in any training held, regular coordination to conduct activities, such as seminars, lectures, conferences, historical site visits, and also to participate in the activities developed by both parties.
This MoU focused on cooperation in sharing mutual knowledge and experiences regarding teaching methodology and curriculum related to Peace Education, History, Human Rights, and Transitional Justice. It also collaborated to ensure the participation of UNITAL’s lecturers on Chega! Module Training, Organizing seminars, lectures, conferences, etc.
Technically, the implementation of this MoU will be regulated by a separate cooperation agreement between both parties, which will serve as the foundation. The MoU remains valid for three (3) years from the date of signing and may be extended or renewed as needed. Either party may terminate the agreement through mutual written consent.
The MoU specifies provisions for amendments or alterations, which must adhere to the agreed principles and terms. Any party seeking to modify, renew, or terminate this agreement must provide written notice to the other party at least three (3) months in advance of the proposed changes.”
The consideration of Centro Chega! and UNITAL
- In accordance with the Mission of CNC I.P is to promote to implementation of the relevant recommendations made in the final Report of the Commission for Reception, Truth, and Reconciliation (CAVR), and institutionalizing the memories, and promoting human rights through education, training and solidarity for the most survivors from past human rights violation and also promoting the implementation of the common recommendations of CAVR and CVA regarding Reparation, Memorialization, Establish the Center of National Memory, Research and Learning under the roles and mandates of the Decree Law 48/2016, Article 7, collaborating with other entities, mentioned in umber 3 alongside Article 6. “Competencies, specified in paragraph b) and j), from this legislation, to approve the statute of CNC I.P.
