Dili, September 14, 2025 – The Executive Director, Hugo Maria Fernandes, and the team of Centro Nacional Chega! received a delegation of the OACPS-EU (Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States – European Union) Joint Parliamentary Assembly, led by Francisco Assis (Chair), Dariusz Jonski (Vice Chair), Michal Wiezik (Vice Chair), Niels Hansen, Bogdan Zdrojewski, Sergio Humberto, Hannes Heide, Marit Maij, Klara Dostalova, and Daniel Freund.

During the meeting, Hugo Maria Fernandes welcomed them for their first visit to Chega!. He also introduced the mandates of Centro Chega!, regarding the implementation of Chega! and PMAS report recommendations, as well as the progress on reparation, education, memorialization, and reconciliation. After the meeting, they visited exhibitions and read narratives from both victims and survivors, as well as viewing graffiti. They also visited the Dark Cells, where political prisoners were detained and tortured by the Indonesian military, leading to numerous violations of human rights.

Francisco Assis thanked the team of Centro Chega! for sharing information and guided them to visit the Museum Chega!, where they could see the history of Timor-Leste’s struggle for independence.

The Ambassador of Timor-Leste to the European Union explained that the delegation’s visit aimed to explore more of Timor-Leste’s history.

“They come to learn about our struggle for independence. They previously supported us. They come to see all these processes where the Executive Director provided the clear information, and they understand,” said the Ambassador.

The visit was accompanied by Jorge Trindade Neves de Camões, the Ambassador of Timor-Leste to the European Union, alongside the team of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (MNEK, in Tetum).
