THE EXECUTIVE PRESIDENT OF CRISTAL: CHEGA! REPORT IS AN ESSENTIAL DOCUMENT FOR TIMOR-LESTE

Dili, February 13, 2026 – Centro Nacional Chega!, in cooperation with the Instituto Superior de Cristal (ISC), organized a discussion on the “Chega! Report, Chapter V: Resistance – Structure and Strategy.” The speakers of the discussion, including Nugroho Katjasungkana, an activist and researcher, who spoke about Chapter V itself, and Josefina Moniz, a member of the Organização Popular da Mulher Timor / Popular Organization of the Women of Timor (OPMT), who provided a critical analysis:  The Strengths and the limitations of the resistance structure during the struggle for independence. 62 students from the Faculty of Health Science participated in the discussion.

Agostinho dos Santos Gonçalves, the Executive President of the Cristal Foundation, emphasized the importance of the Chega! report as a crucial document that outlines the history of Timor-Leste, including the people’s struggle for independence. He stated that the report is not only about the past but also about the future. Therefore, ISC is committed to partnering with Centro Chega! to host similar discussions in the future.

“Chega! Report is essential for Timor-Leste. It addresses not only our past but also the future of the people of Timor. This discussion helps students understand the meaning of ‘Chega!’—enough of violence, suffering, and injustice—so that we can live happily and peacefully,” explained the Executive President.

On this occasion, Sebastião Pereira, the Rector of ISC, noted that the activity aims to educate students about the history of Timor-Leste. He affirmed ISC’s commitment to future educational training initiatives.

Alexandre Ornay Pinto, the Director of Education and Training of Centro Chega! stated that the regular discussion provides an opportunity for students to learn about the history written in the Chega! report, fostering students’ curiosity to learn the history of Timor-Leste.

Student Estefania Ximenes expressed her delight in participating in the discussion, as it allowed her to explore the history of Timor-Leste’s independence process further. While, Baltazar, remarked on the importance of hearing directly from speakers who were actively involved in the struggle for independence.
