Press Release: CNC Provided Training to 4 Municipal Memorial Museum Managers

(Dili, 04th March 2024) – Centro Nacional Chega!I.P through the Division of Historical Research and Archives (DPAI), provided Museum Management Training to 4 Municipal Memorial Museum Managers from Aileu Municipal Memorial Museum (AMMM), Viqueque Municipal Memorial Museum (VMMM), Covalima Municipal Memorial Museum (CMMM), and Bobonaro Municipal Memorial Museum (BMMM) held at the Conference Room of Centro Nacional Chega!I.P, Former Prison Balide for four days between 04-08 March 2024. 

The primary aim of this training was to enhance their knowledge and abilities in historical memory documentation, historical document preservation, and Tour Guide. The training was a response to the availability of the Municipal Memorial Museum establishment to preserve historical documents of human rights violations from 1974 to 1999. It was to disseminate information regarding the history of the past to the public, particularly the histories of the Municipality to be the peace, justice, and human rights learning center. It will be a reference for future researchers and be a reflection room on memories of the past.

In addition, the training was also the response to the services of 4 Municipal Memorial Museum Managers regarding the historical memory preservation and dissemination of memories information of the past to the public in creating a common understanding of how using historical memories as learning lessons that unrepeated past violence.

Thus, 4 Municipal Memorial Museum Managers Training was a part of the responsibility of Centro Chega for accompanying Museum Managers for two years to be integrated into the municipality structure, and they need to strengthen their knowledge and ability first regarding the assumed responsibilities before CNC integrates it into the Municipalities.  

Centro Nacional Chega!I.P has established 4 Memorial Museums from 2021-2023 as one of the platforms through the Integrated Memorialization Program with the final objective of unrepeated past violence with the mechanisms of establishing the platforms for the people and the communities from the cultural-ethnic and the policy to share their histories and involve the communities in the dialogue and memorialization to preserve the historical memories through the archives and disseminate to the public to facilitate the understanding process on policy and programs on how using the historical memories.

The Vision of Centro Chega!, “The inclusive Societies, history of the past to be unrepeated, live peacefully, and respect human rights,” and its mission, “Establishing post-conflict centers, preserving the memories of the past, promoting human values and rights, creating national and international partners, strengthens network services to implement the relevant recommendation made in the Final Report of the Commission for Reception, Truth and Reconciliation (CAVR)-Chega!, and Truth and Friendship Commission (CVA) – Per Memoriam Ad Spem/From Memory to Hope.”
