Dili, March 19, 2026 – The Centro Nacional Chega! I.P. receives the historical documents of Timor-Leste (1974-1999) from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). Officially, Martin de Boer, Head of the Regional Delegation of the ICRC for Timor-Leste and Indonesia, presents these documents to Hugo Maria Fernandes, Executive Director of Centro Nacional Chega! I.P, held at Centro Chega!, Antigo Comarca Balide-Dili, Timor-Leste. Both representatives signed the documents, and a framed photograph was handed as a symbolic gesture of this important handover.
Hugo Maria Fernandes, Executive Director of Centro Nacional Chega! I.P, expresses his gratitude to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) for bringing the historical documents of Timor-Leste from the ICRC Archives in Geneva to the Centro Chega! Archives for preservation. He emphasizes that this presentation of documents reflects a mutual confidence and serves to strengthen ongoing collaboration between Centro Chega! and the ICRC. Furthermore, he notes that the ICRC Archives have significantly contributed to the elaboration of the Report of the Commission for Reception, Truth, and Reconciliation (CAVR).
“Today marks the beginning of an important collaboration, as the ICRC starts to hand over the photographs to Centro Chega!. This handover of documents is intended to further strengthen our cooperation. Mr. Martin also expresses a desire for an opportunity to visit and observe what is preserved there,” stated Hugo.

Archives. These documents consist of photographs archived at the ICRC Archives in Geneva.
